Environmental Wearable Technology for the Future
Brief
An Exercise in Awareness is a wearable technology thesis project created for an independent study in the Digital Futures program at OCAD University in Toronto, Canada under the supervision of Kate Hartman. Consisting of a vest with a neck piece and hood, the wearable senses current environment, tracks the location of the wearer and delivers information about how the plants in the current location are reacting to the environmental conditions. Meant to be a personal, poetic and quiet experience, An Exercise in Awareness decentres the human and focuses solely on the environment.
Preliminary Iteration
This project began as a preliminary work in Kate Hartman’s Advanced Wearable Electronics class in the winter of 2025. Learn more about the preliminary work here: https://blogs.ocaduwebspace.ca/digf-3010-501-2024wi/2025/04/16/an-exercise-in-awareness/.
